Hello, everyone! Yesterday I did a little purging in "The Cave". As I was sorting through
things that I've had for years, literally, I realized that crafting can become more about
purchasing supplies and less about the actual craft itself. I know from first-hand experience.
When I first started crafting, four-plus years ago, I would buy anything that was on sale. I mean, why not? Look how cheap it is, surely, I can use this for something. Here's the problem with that thought process, more than sixty percent of my purchases were brought home, placed on a shelf or in a drawer and never touched again. Yes, they all look so pretty lining my shelves but just think of all the supplies I could have bought and USED! For instance, the picture below, the left side of the bookshelf, third shelf up, Martha Stewart Punches that I purchased for $2.99, $3.99 and $5.99 Let's guesstimate the cost. On the low side, $200. Really, Lisa? I could have spent that money on usable supplies.
I'm so grateful every day I walk in here.

Fast forward to four years and this is what I now know about my crafting. I have two crafts, making cards and creating with my Silhouette Cameo. My card-making is CAS with bold, bright colors and white or kraft cardstock for the base. I wish I would've figured this out sooner, I could've saved myself some money and, perhaps, discouragement. Now, I find I want to eliminate all this excess and only have what I need. I'm finding by eliminating the excess my creativity is blooming. They say, clearing the clutter clears your mind, I'm finding truth in that statement. So today, I will be giving away more of my excess. Who knows maybe my excess fits your craft style and if not, please, pay it forward.

ReplyDeletePlease don't include me in your prize draw, I'm international, just wanted to congratulate you on your de-cluttering progress, it is so easy for things to get out of control :)
Love your space. I need a room just for crafts. I keep getting more lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I do love my little space.
DeleteI just want to uproot your "Craft Cave" and replace it with my hot mess craft room!!.. But since that is not going to happen and I have been looking for a new computer desk as mine is super old I think I am going to take your drafting table idea and see if it fits into my current layout.. Thank you for sharing your cave pictures and the chance to win some of your excess..
ReplyDeleteHi and thanks for stopping by. My table can actually be made to fit almost any space. I made it using two closet maid shelves, galvanized pipe and flanges(short screws), and a white laminate sheet. I bought my white laminate sheet at Home Depot and they cut it for me, you can pick up closet maid shelves at just about any big box home improvement store along with the galvanized pipe and flanges. It's very easy to assemble. You could also make it shorter but I knew I wanted my work space higher. And I'm actually glad that I did it that way, I stand a lot more now. And we all the benefits of standing compared to sitting.
DeleteGoing to start following your blog! Maybe your organizational skills will rub off on me! I love happy surprises! I've also had trouble with CAS cards, so maybe I can learn a lot from your style also! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. My sister in law makes fun of me because I'm so organized! I find it makes clean up so much easier and who doesn't love a quick clean up, right?
DeleteWow Lisa, you have really maximized your "Crafting Cave" space so wisely.I so like that you shared your space with us, seeing it had given me a few great organizational idea.
ReplyDeleteI SERIOUSLY am loving your drafting table, do you happen to remember when you purchased it at? Also, I'm just curious.... would you notice if I swapped your awesome drafting table for my so blah folding card table? lol..
It's truly generous of you to share some of your excess craft goodies with fellow crafters, have fingers crossed that I might be one of them.
Thank you. LOL, If you were close I would help you build your own table. I was just telling another follower that I actually made the table using Closet Maid shelves(2), a piece of white laminate sheeting(bought at Home Depot), galvanized pipe and flanges. You can customize to your liking. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I love sharing.
DeleteI can so relate, but can't stop the hoarding, laughing. What I don't use I pass on to my nieces and they love it. You're space is awesome, makes me want to go reorganize! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
